Way back when I was in high school, which seems a lot longer right now than it really was, one of the first bands I ever really got into was the Dead Milkmen. Their goofy music was one of the unifying forces between me and the group of friends I had back then.
A few years later, I got to see them live and had my copy of Beelzebubba autographed by the band, the very same copy I played at the club last Friday night.
I was shocked to learn today that their bass player, Dave Blood, committed suicide last night.
I'll miss you Dave, I hope you found the peace you were looking for.

let's see over the past little bit I've:
--had the window broken out of my truck and my stereo stolen (joke's on them, it was screwy anyway) --gotten a new job --dealt with massive computer issues --recorded Voltaire's show, parts of which are actually going on a forthcoming live album --moved and finally have a stable place to live --was told i had a recurring DJ gig on Fridays (I was informed on that wednesday, eep!) for Retropop. Yes, I played Secession's "Sneakyville". Yes, I'm sure somewhere someone we all know looked up out of nowhere and screamed "That bastard got that song from me!!"
Which I did, credit where credit is due.
--forgot half the crap I was going to post about
So there ya go. |

The lyrics will be about losing things and finding things and wanting things and being unhappy, and the music will be a bunch of stuff layered over each other.

| Weird Saturdays |
[Dec. 3rd, 2003|12:37 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | contemplative | ] |
| [ | music |
| | VNV Nation - Solitary | ] | Since you asked, here's what made Saturday weird...
To begin with, having the country songwriter's be there and go over sort of cast a pallor on the beginning of the evening. Saturdays are our nights and it's odd feeling out of place in your own club (by "your own" I mean all of us freaks.
The major bit of weirdness came from the presence of none other than Michael Rain (known in some circles as "Stinky Cheese-head Man"). Now he scoped me out for most of the night, but wouldn't talk to me. Finally, he sends his girlfriend over: "Hi, I'm insert usual gothy type alias here, I think it was Siren are you Don?". Eventually he comes over and talks and blah blah blah and *surprise surprise* wants me to play some guitar on his new project (odds him actually having something done are slim to none, but you never know) and etc.
Now most of what Mikey says is bullshit, always has been, ask anyone. But one important thing he mentioned about this, is it would be a paying gig and I wouldn't necessarily have to be permanently involved in anything. Frankly, I could use the money, but I have quite a few irons in the fire anyway, such as:
Synchresis: My main project. I have 17 tracks majorly complete with the exception of vocals. Most of the demos (the ones I've let out of my sight) have gotten excellent feedback from those who've heard them. Somehow the album is going to come out in the coming year.
Deadkin: A fun side project just for writing songs about zombies and evil clowns and setting people on fire. I'd like every song to be playable just on an acoustic, so the evil fun can spread anywhere.
Emulator: A mainly electronic thing with me, Andrew and Jimmy. I have no idea what it'll sound like because we haven't started yet.
Shit, I should just start a record label and be done with it.
So the thing is, I could use a paying gig, but I'm not really interested in the whole playing guitar aspect. I think the only way I'd do it would be in a production capacity.
And the money. I'm not putting up with his crap again without being well paid for it. Even then, I dunno. If I showed up and he has nothing written (again!!!) I think I'll beat the shit out of him and leave.
Also, I got flirted with a lot, did my ego good, but it was weird. |

| | The Chameleons - Intrigue in Tangiers | ] | So, it's been kind of a long week. Here's the gist.
I was late for Thanksgiving with my parents because I was doing prep work (i.e. brining, little bit of aromatic stuffage) for Matt's little Thanksgiving get together. This was necessary because Kami asked me to keep him from burning the place down, I felt sorry for the turkey, and I've seen him burn water. Luckily, he followed my meticulous directions well, and the turkey came out great.
Stayed home till Saturday. My mother continued the stream of complaining she began sometime during the Carter administration. My father kept reminding me about his will and it's location. He's been in ill health for a few years now. I worry about him. It's very stressful. For those who bitch about what I do, but won't talk to me (*cough* Carmen *cough*) I should mention that the kitties are doing just great. Both have adjusted to their temporary home and are doing good. Bartok enjoys harassing the dog. Bartok's Mom (aka "Snowball") enjoys smacking him in the face periodically.
Came back Saturday and went out to the club. We were subjected to the first apparently country "songwriter's night" at Asylum. Now in theory, I'm all for this, even though it's not my thing. However, they ran waaaay late and had a crowd of angry goths at the back of the club to deal with. Not cool and kinda rude. I'm of the opinion we should take over one night. I have several acoustic Misfits songs ready to go...MUAHAHAHA It was a very weird club night, maybe I'll get around to posting why later. Or knowing me, maybe not. You'll just have to deal, dear reader.
Today I did a lot of job hunting and then went to hang out with Asli and Stacy. Good times. |

| | The Misfits - Where Eagles Dare | ] | I like it when people who have offically cut off all contact with you get all pissed off because you didn't tell them something. Despite the fact that there's nothing they could do and they're not fucking talking to you anymore so they wouldn't listen anyway!
I also love when someone gets all pissed off without bothering to , I dunno, ask about why something may have had to be done. Course, that might require thought or some degree of emotional maturity and we can't have that can we? So much easier just to scream and rage and post things for your own little peanut gallery to feed you some sympathy isn't it?
Yeah, so I'm an asshole. Big fucking deal. So I'm gonna get an angry email, or IM exchange. Big fucking deal. You could have avoided all your rightous indignation by either: a) keeping in contact or b) staying out of contact.
Fucking. pick. one.
If (a) then, great I'll explain everything and maybe even apologize for this. If (b) then, shut the fuck up with your bitching and get on with your life. |
